How to Fix Uneven or Crooked Blinds

If one side of your blinds hangs lower than the other, don’t worry — this is one of the most common and easiest problems to fix.

1. Lower the Blinds Completely

Start by fully lowering the blinds.
This ensures both sides are extended to their maximum position, making it easier to spot the imbalance.

2. Check the Cord or Lift Mechanism

For corded blinds, pull each side of the lift cord individually:

  • Pull gently on the higher side to lower it slightly.
  • Adjust until both sides are level.

For cordless blinds, push the bottom rail up slightly, then pull it down evenly from the center.

Tip: Always lift cordless blinds from the center to prevent uneven tension.

3. Inspect the Mounting Brackets

If adjusting doesn’t help, the issue may be installation-related.

  • Use a level tool to check if both brackets are even.
  • Loosen and re-tighten screws as needed to realign.

4. Check for Tangled or Misaligned Slats

Sometimes, one or more slats may have shifted or bent slightly.

  • Straighten misaligned slats by hand.
  • Make sure none are caught in the ladder cords.

5. Prevent Future Problems

  • Always raise and lower blinds gently.
  • Clean the headrail periodically to avoid debris buildup.
  • Avoid tugging from one side.

Conclusion

A few small adjustments can easily fix crooked blinds. With regular maintenance and gentle handling, your window shades will stay level and smooth for years.
